Lakers lose in Steve Nash’s debut

LOS ANGELES, CA (NEWS1130) – Victoria’s Steve Nash chipped in with seven points and four assists in his Los Angeles Lakers debut, but his team couldn’t seem to find its rhythm as the Lakers fell 99-91 to the Dallas Mavericks in their season opener.

Nash made a good first impression in front of his new home fans, as he drained a three-pointer on his first attempt for the Lakers’ first points of the season. Nash added two more points in the first quarter and then was held off the scoreboard until he put up two more points in the fourth quarter.

Overall, Nash shot three-for-nine from the field in 34 minutes of court time. The Lakers new point guard also added a pair of rebounds.

Pau Gasol led the way offensively for the Lakers with 23 points while Kobe Bryant added 22 points.

Dwight Howard was also making his debut with Los Angeles. He had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

North Vancouver’s Robert Sacre was on the bench for the Lakers in his first NBA game, but he didn’t get any time on the court. Sacre was chosen by the Lakers with the final pick of this year’s draft.

Nash and the Lakers will have a chance to redeem themselves right away, as they’ll be on the road taking on the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
