‘Skyfall’ doesn’t disappoint: Canada’s 007 expert

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – For a half-century, nobody has done it better than James Bond. Today, movie fans will get to join the super-spy on his latest adventure, Skyfall.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the famous film series, inspired by novelist Ian Fleming.

Murray Gillespie is known internationally as Canada’s foremost expert on all things Bond. The Ottawa native started collecting posters and other memorabilia 30 years ago. Today, he today runs his own 007-related business, Bond Decor Design.

He says Skyfall has everything you would want from a Bond film.

“It’s got the action, it’s got the escapism, it’s got the great locations, it’s got the girls,” explains Gillespie.

“It’s an exciting film to watch and I think that they have really, really done great things with Skyfall and Bond 50,” he adds.

Is there a definitive James Bond?

“Well, [Sean] Connery made the character, so you’ve got to give props to Mr. Connery,” admits Gillespie. “But, I would definitely say Daniel Craig is the Bond for the new generation. He’s put so much into the character, and this is his third [007] movie, this is his Goldfinger.”

Gillespie says whoever ends up replacing Craig has to be a younger actor who can age into the role. He lists Henry Cavill and Sam Worthington as potential future Bonds.
