BC NDP questions future of health minister

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – The NDP released documents and private emails outside Burnaby General Hospital today, again accusing the provincial government of  playing politics with the aging facility.

The New Democrats say the emails were leaked to them and further prove the government stacked a committee looking at options for replacing the hospital and manipulated the process to gain votes in Burnaby.

Kathy Corrigan, NDP MLA for Burnaby-Deer Lake, is questioning the future of Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid.

“People in British Columbia have a right to see information like this and find out exactly what is going on behind the scenes and how cynical and manipulated the process was,” says Corrigan.

“Keep in mind people were dying in hospital as a result of the neglect and this is the response, to use it as a political tool,” she adds.

“I think you really have to ask questions about the future of the Minister of Health and you have to ask questions about a government that would hire people who are acting in such a partisan way,” she argues.

The government has said the process to replace Burnaby General is not political and planning will be lead by the Fraser Health Authority, guided by experts.
