Booze carts could be coming to a golf course near you

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver City Council is approving a plan for booze carts on three publicly-owned golf courses.

The plan would allow beverage carts at Fraserview, Langara and McCleery golf courses. It’s a proposal brought forward by the Park Board and Council has now endorsed it, apart from Councillor Adrienne Carr.

She explains “I was out in a ride along with the VPD.  I saw police take liquor from people who were wandering the streets with that liquor. In my mind wandering a fairway, wandering a street, it’s the same thing.”

Councillor George Affleck is among those who dismissed those types of fears.  “Those three golf courses are already seeing people consume alcohol illegally. If you’ve ever golfed there, you’ll see that people sneak their beer on anyways, if they want a drink on.”

More than a dozen private golf courses in the area already offer beverage carts.

The Park Board will now bring its application to the province for approval.
