Elderly couple to get home rebuilt by police and fire

By

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A happy ending to a sad story we first told you about last weekend when an elderly couple’s Abbotsford home was destroyed by a fire.

Today, the couple learned their home for over 80 years will be rebuilt. The pair, both in their 80’s had no insurance and were basically left homeless.

Abbotsford Fire and Police departments announced they will work together to rebuild the home.
Constable Ian Macdonald says the couple’s story really touched people throughout the Lower Mainland.

“A lot of people have come forward and made generous donation. Unfortunately, with this couple in their eighties, there have been some offers that have had some strings attached and Abbotsford Fire and Police departments don’t feel that in the nature of charity, neither should have to sign anything or make any promises in return.”

He adds that although the departments will volunteer their time, they are still looking for cash and material donations to help with the project.

Anyone wishing to donate to the cause is asked to call Sgt. Judy Dizy directly at 604-835-1316.
