News1130’s weekend sports round-up

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With the BC Lions season coming to an end last week the local focus will be on the ice this weekend.

WHL

The Vancouver Giants have a light schedule this weekend with just one game on tap. The Giants will be on the road to face the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday night. Kamloops (19-5-2) has the best record in the WHL, but has gone just 4-5-1 in its past 10 games. The Giants (7-16-0) on the other hand hold the worst record in the league and have lost three games in a row.

This will be the first of eight meetings between the two teams.

The Blazers possess the top two scorers in the league. Right winger JC Lipon (21 goals, 30 assists) leads teammate Colin Smith (16 goals, 33 assists) by just two points.

Puck drop on Saturday is at 7 p.m.

AHL

The Abbotsford Heat will wrap-up a five-game road trip with three games in three days in three different Texas cities. Tonight the Heat will meet the Texas Stars in Cedar Park. Abbotsford will then take on the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday before finishing the weekend with a game against the Houston Aeros on Sunday.

The Heat had a three-game winning streak snapped last Sunday with a 5-0 loss to the Toronto Marlies. Abbotsford (10-2-3) currently leads the North Division, with a four-point cushion over Toronto.

Game time tonight is 5:30 p.m.

BCHL

The Coquitlam Express will host the West Kelowna Warriors at the Coquitlam Sports Centre tonight. Game time is 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the Chilliwack Chiefs will take on the Merritt Centennials at the Prospera Centre.

There are no games on the BCHL schedule for Sunday.
