Man tries to smuggle 11 bags full of marijuana across border

POINT ROBERTS (NEWS1130) – Nothing says subtle like 11 garbage bags full of weed in the back of your pickup.

A 54-year-old man was arrested at the Point Roberts Border Crossing.

He was heading towards US Border Guards on Saturday, but at the last minute decided to turn around.

The Canadian man was pulled over anyway for erratic driving, and Faith St John with the Canadian Border Services Agency says it seemed innocent enough at first.

“And during the examination the driver stated that he became lost when he was approaching the border and that he turned around to avoid an examination. He was referred for a further exam.”

$660,000 worth of weed was pulled from his pickup.

“Officers immediately arrested the 54 year old and seized his vehicle”

The Delta Police Department was called, and the CBSA turned the man and the pot over to the police.

This is the fourth significant drug seizure in Pacific Region this month.

On November 4 and November 6, officers at the Vancouver International Airport intercepted travelers who had ingested heroin and methamphetamines in three failed smuggling attempts.
