Charges laid in hostage incident

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man linked to a hostage incident in downtown Vancouver is now facing charges.

Koyes Ahmad, 37, has been charged with unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats.

Police responded to a call at the 7-11 at Drake and Granville Street yesterday, shortly before 11:30 a.m., about a man who was holding an employee against her will.

The hostage-taking forced the closure of the Granville Street Bridge for almost an hour.

Ahmad is being held in custody until his next court appearance on November 30.
