Rogers Santa Claus Parade draws huge crowd

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A little bit of drizzle wasn’t enough to scare the more than 300,000 people waiting to see the Big Guy.

The 9th Annual Roger Santa Claus Parade along West Georgia and Howe Street was filled with kids who were excited to see the man of the hour.

They showed up for the holiday music, the festive floats, and the Christmas candy. But most importantly they came with their wish lists.

This eight-year-old girl had very tech-heavy desires. “First I would probably want a computer or an iPod”

But this six-year-old had a more cuddly list. “Maybe a Furreal, it moves around and it’s got lots of fur on it” Animals played a common theme with many kids. “And I want a pony, a pony! Why a pony? Because I like them.”

It wasn’t only kids in the crowd. Vicki brought her grandchildren down to share the Christmas tradition. ” I think they still have all the belief of everything being for real so it’s really magical to re-experience that.”

She hopes to make this an annual experience with her family.

But the biggest highlight came at the very end. People young and old were smiling ear to ear as Santa arrived in his sleigh. They cheered and clapped when he made his debut, some of them singing along to the Christmas tunes.

Many people say the annual parade is the true start to the festive season.
