Forum explores domestic violence, teen dating abuse

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A series of talks in Surrey today not only focus on domestic violence, they delve into the world of teen dating abuse.

The forum explores the perspective of the victim and the abuser.

Surrey Councillor Barinder Rasode is behind the event after seeing a real need in the community

She says there were some heavy topics up for discussion today.  “Things like violence, sexting, cyber bullying… also empowering youth.”

Also in the forefront is social media, sexuality, peer pressure, and cultural differences.    “One of the things that was elevated for me was, well maybe high-school is too late? Maybe we should be talking to young people in grades six and seven. So those are the types of decisions we will be making after the conference.”

Maple Batailia‘s mother was also at the conference, her daughter was gunned down in an SFU parking lot last year.
