VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A walking and cycling route from Stanley Park to False Creek is next up on the City of Vancouver’s transportation agenda. It’s a plan that would cost more than $5 million for the first two kilometeres of a greenway.
The first stage of the plan is a stretch linking Stanley Park and Hornby Street along Comox, Burrard, and Helmcken Streets.
Stephen Regan of the West End Business Improvement Association says his group has concerns about parking, traffic, and loading zones. However, he is open to the concept.
“I don’t think the businesses would have been leading the advocacy for it, but that’s where the City is looking 15, 20, 30 years down the road,” he tells us.
Regan notes the plan offers opportunity. “Some of the customers are going to increasingly come by bike.”
The second stage, going through Yaletown, would need more consultation. The City’s recommendation is up for approval next week by City Council.
