Shots fired at Richmond Ikea

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Richmond RCMP still trying to figure out who fired several shots in the parkade of the new Ikea Tuesday.

Cpl Sherrdean Turley with Richmond RCMP says they are still looking for suspects

“The suspects fled prior to police arrival, and the reasons this incident occurred are not yet known. At this time we’re just asking that any witnesses or anyone who has any information regarding this incident to please give a phone call.

Some shoppers had to walk around and duck under yellow police tape to get to their cars.

Others expressed concern because the gunfire happened at such a busy time with lots of families and children around.

“We’ve been here for a couple hours and we weren’t sure the severity but now with everyone still here, it makes me wonder…hard times make people do crazy things,” says Heather clinging onto her baby.

“There’s always innocent bystanders that may be caught in the crossfire so yes it does (worry me),” adds another shopper.

“It’s always a concern when you see guns going off in public,” says another man.

“People don’t want to feel threatened coming to shop where they come to everyday.  So it is concerning, absolutely.  Crime escalating is something we hope isn’t happening,” says Melanie.

No one was injured, and no property was damaged.
