Sentencing begins for woman who killed Kassandra Kaulius

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – It’s been a tough day in court for the family of Kassandra Kaulius as sentencing begins for the person responsible for the young softball player’s death.

Some of Kaulius’ family had to excuse themselves from the courtroom in Surrey as a lawyer described the catastrophic injuries that killed the 22-year-old.

Tearful victim impact statements are being read today.

Natasha Warren pleaded guilty in July on three counts: dangerous driving causing death, failing to stay at the scene, and driving with a blood alcohol level higher than 0.08.

Warren was driving a white van that struck Kaulius’ BMW at 100 km/hr in early May of last year at 64th Avenue and 152nd Street. Kaulius died within seconds of the crash.

The Crown is asking for Warren to spend 3.5 years in jail.
