Operation Red Nose gearing up for New Years Eve

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re planning on ringing in the new year with a few cocktails, do so responsibly.

Operation Red Nose is getting ready for their busiest night of the year.

The free ride service is more popular than ever this year, so you’ll have to plan ahead.

Operation Red Nose’s Marie-Chantel Fortin says volunteers will need plenty of time to come and get you on New Years Eve.

“I’m convinced that if you call us, we’re not going to be there in 20 minutes, there’s a good chance we’ll be there in about an hour. Maybe look at your watch and say, ‘you know, I’ll be about ready to go in about an hour.’ You know, we are not able to let you know in advance how long it’s going to be,” Fortin says.

“Our program is run by volunteers, we are only able to provide as many rides as we have volunteers. Seeing as how Dec. 31 is our busiest night of the year, it’s really good to not rely soley on Operation Red Nose,” she explains.

It might not hurt to have a taxi number handy as a backup in case the wait for a ride gets too long.
