Volunteer count for Op Red Nose in Mission, Abbotsford down

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Donations are up, but rides are down.

Organizers with Operation Red Nose in Mission and Abbotsford gave out 768 rides last month, which is slightly less than last year.

“Our volunteer processing system was much more complicated than it had been in the past and I think that has cost us quite dearly in our volunteer population,” explains Coordinator Linda Palm. “I think that is probably why we saw a decline in our number of rides.”

She says they’ll be rolling out a new campaign to attract more volunteers in the near future. Organizers will also be calling people who offered to help in the past, but decided not to volunteer this time around.

But Palm tells us there is some good news: they took in more money this year.

“The ride donations are just under $16,500 in total,” says Palm. “Last year, we were just under $15,000.”

Operation Red Nose gave out more than 860 rides in the Tri-Cities last month, which is way up from last year.
