When will the puck drop in the NHL again?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The NHL and NHLPA have reached a tentative deal; now what?

“The Board of Governors will convene in New York City to vote on the new CBA. The players will vote as well,” explains Rick Dhaliwal with News1130 Sports.

“Everything should pass by Wednesday. It is sounding more and more as if the NHL camps might not open until the weekend… first games [will] likely not [be] played until January 19th,” he tells us.

Dhaliwal notes that with the tentative deal in place, the Canucks now have some work to do.

“The Canucks have to call up some players from Chicago. I think close to five will be called up, including Zack Kassian and Jordan Schroeder. They’ve got the Roberto Luongo trade they’ve got to work on, they’ve got to get Ryan Kesler healthy… there are a lot of issues in the Vancouver camp. A lot of question marks.”

The return of NHL hockey could also mean the return of a familiar sight for local fans: two grown men in spandex, pelvic thrusting near the penalty box at Rogers Arena.

Return of the Green Men?

“Sully” of the Green Men admits he’s disappointed the game was “on ice” for so long, but he says he’s glad the season has been salvaged.

“I know people staring at men’s crotches in spandex is hard to wipe from the memory bank… so, [an end to the lockout is] what we’ve been counting on for the last little while,” he jokes.

He adds he and “Force” have been keeping busy by going to Vancouver Giants games and making other public appearances.
