Luongo locks down two points in shootout win

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Roberto Luongo stopped all four Blackhawks in the shootout and Jordan Schroeder scored on the Canucks fourth attempt to give Vancouver a 2-1 win over Chicago at Rogers Arena.

Rookie Schroeder just squeezed the puck between Chicago goalie Corey Crawford’s pads and Luongo turned aside Nick Leddy who was the ‘Hawks final shooter to lock up the final point for the home team.

Jonathan Toews,  Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp all failed in the break away competition for Chicago, while Alex Burrows, Zack Kassian and Maxim Lapierre were unsuccessful in the Canucks first three attempts.

Kane had tied the game on a nice shot that beat Luongo high, half way through the third period.

The only other goal in the oddly passive game between the two rivals came in the first period when Vancouver defenceman Alex Edler’s wrist shot beat Crawford.

Canucks captain Henrik Sedin played in his 900th career regular season game.

In his third straight appearance, Roberto Luongo made 27 saves during 65 minutes of play.

Vancouver is back in action on Monday in Edmonton.
