BBB warning people buying or selling gold

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With Chinese New Year happening this weekend, the Better Business Bureau has a warning for people who may be in the market to buy or sell their gold.

Start with finding out the actual value of your items.

And make sure you get whatever you are selling appraised by a jeweler.

Mark Fernandes with the BBB says some will weigh all your stuff together and pay you the lowest karat value, so make sure you check the worth before going in.

“Find out what the carats are, usually it’s listed right on the item. You don’t put various types of gold together because they do have different carat values and that will affect the price that you will be getting.”

There is a major difference between the market value versus the melt value.

If you plan on selling your items online, make sure you ask for specifics and give as many details as you can before putting anything in the mail.
