Flu cases on the decline around BC

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It looks like the worst is over; flu cases have started to decline around the province.
H3N2 came in with a vengeance, but Roy Thorpe-Dorward with the Fraser Health Authority says doctor’s office and emergency room visits are down.
“We certainly had more outbreaks in our long-term care facilities in Fraser Health than we have in recent years. I’m happy to report that these seem to be on the wane as well; we’ve only seen a couple of new outbreaks in the month of February,” he adds.
“We’re very hopeful that we’ve seen the peak of the season.”
However, he explains the flu is unpredictable.
“We’re still advising those who haven’t had the flu shot that they can still get it through their doctor’s office, walk-in clinics and pharmacies. And we’ll continue to recommend that people stay home when they’re sick… and to practice the frequent handwashing.”
Thorpe-Dorward says those are the best ways to prevent the spread of flu.
