Local limo company wants standards following teen’s death

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A local limousine company is calling for uniform industry standards, following the death of a teen on a party bus in Surrey.

Silverstar Limousines is asking the public to help develop guidelines that will prevent more tragedies. The company is starting the conversation on its Facebook page.

“We feel that there needs to be a change to the rules within the limousine industry to ensure that this doesn’t happen again in the future,” says Dorren Ram with the company.

She says every limo and party bus company, from time to time, has to deal with underage drinkers.

“We all have experienced it in the past, but I think that we all ought to try to deter this from happening. We all have our own rules and regulations and policies towards this.”

Ram tells us from now on, Silverstar will require parental permission, in writing, for all underage passengers.

On Friday, a 16 year old died in Surrey, just minutes after boarding a party bus owned by a different company. Ram says this tragedy could have happened on any party bus.

She’s hoping to get feedback from parents, police, servers, and others in the limo industry.
