Abduction in Surrey was a hoax

SURREY (NEWS1130) – What appeared to be an abduction at Surrey Central Mall on Saturday was nothing but a prank being caught on video by friends. Police are not impressed.

It happened around the dinner hour when Corporal Bert Paquet says people in the parking lot watched as two men shoved another into the trunk of a Mercedes.

“It appeared that this was a planned hoax, with a fourth person videotaping the whole incident,” he explains.

“This was never posted anywhere or taken any further by these people.”

Police showed footage of the car involved and a woman spotted it on her street; it led officers to three very apologetic men. A fourth female is also involved.

Paquet says charges are not being considered, but he adds it was treated as very serious from the get-go and that the resources could have been much better used.

“We’re happy to report that this case had a positive conclusion,” he tells us. “However, it took a lot of time and resources that could have gone to real and serious incidents.”
