New multi-million dollar corridor for Port of Prince Rupert

PRINCE RUPERT (NEWS1130) – It’s another sign that the Port of Prince Rupert is destined to be one of the most important ports on the continent.

Dignitaries will gather on Friday for the official launch of a multi-million dollar rail and road project for the port.

“It’s the fastest growing port in North America,” says Prince Rupert Mayor Jack Mussallem. “It is the third busiest port in Canada right now, and we believe we’ll one day by the second busiest.”

The addition of rail tracks and the double laning of roads at the port’s Ridley Island terminals will improve access to what’s becoming a world class facility.

“It’s already the most efficient grain terminal in North America, the coal terminal has set records, and a liquefied natural gas plant is planned,” notes Mussallem when talking about the prominence of the port.

“And as long as demand remains strong for resource-based commodities, along the Asia-Pacific, the port of Prince Rupert will continue to grow.”

The shipping route from Prince Rupert to Asia is shorter than from any other North American route.
