CFIB uses social media campaign for PST public awareness

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A “PST Tuesday” public awareness campaign is launching today, as the April 1st sales tax changeover draws ever closer.

The campaign is aimed squarely at the many businesses that have yet to make the transition.

Mike Klassen with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business says PST Tuesday is about inviting CFIB Twitter users to tag tweets with #PST and #smallbiz.

“We want all of us to get out there and let our small business operators in BC know to get out there and register, and not leave it to the last minute,” he explains, adding that thousands of small businesses still haven’t registered for the PST.

Klassen says small businesses are not happy about going back to the old tax. “It’s costing them money, it’s costing them time. Cash registers need to be re-keyed, staff need to be trained up… this is a whole new ball game for a lot of new businesses.”

“It’s costing them, on average, up to about $3,000 to make this change. So, perhaps there is a little bit of resentment about that.”

He suggests businesses check the province’s website for information about how to make the switch.
