Johnson’s Landing landslide victims hit by thieves

KASLO (NEWS1130) – People who lived through last year’s Johnson’s Landing landslide in the Kootenays have been victimized again but this time by thieves.

RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk says it takes a real low life to do something like this.  He says they took tools, ATVs, and electronics from unoccupied homes in an area that is extremely dangerous.

“It’s really quite heartless to think that after being victimized and there’s families that have lost loved ones in this slide of course with three individuals being killed, that thieves would go into these areas and steal from their homes.”

Moskaluk says the officers went to the site to speak with residents but because the slope is still unstable, officers could only get to one of the houses hit.

He says the thieves put their own lives at risk by going there.
