Province to stress no drinking on party buses at meeting

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a reminder that drinking on party buses and limos is against the law.
Operators are meeting with the province tomorrow — this comes just five weeks after police say evidence of alcohol was found on a party bus, where a 16-year-old boy collapsed before dying.
Transportation ministry staff will stress that passengers can have fun on the buses but only if there’s no alcohol on board.
Minister Mary Polak says the province takes the issue very seriously. “It is important to emphasize that in BC, it is illegal to consume liquor in any public place, including a commercial vehicle. I want to make it very clear that I am willing to suspend the licenses of companies that break the law.”
They will also remind bus companies that if the laws are broken, the company will be on the hook.
Tommy Cuscito with Vancouver Party Buses is glad to air out the issues. “I think there should be zero-tolerance for teens drinking, it’s a handful of operators out there that don’t care and they’re the ones giving the ones out there like myself a bad name and a bad rep for all of this.”
But he doesn’t agree with the rules for adults and is planning to lobby for change.
He says, it’s safer for them to book his services than to drink and drive.
