Mercedes-Benz launches new drivers program in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – What do you think of the level of driving skills in Metro Vancouver? One auto maker is launching a new program to teach people how to drive.
Luxury brand Mercedes-Benz is teaming up with Pitt Meadows based driving school Driving Unlimited to coach new learners.

The Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy for New Drivers is aimed at ultimately helping improve safety on the congested streets of the Lower Mainland.
“When it comes to young people, certainly the big mistakes are overconfidence, lack of skills, and poor decision making skills. If we can address those items, we’re going to have a lot safer drivers on the road,” says Danny Kok, President of Driving Unlimited.

He says about 90 per cent of collisions are due to mistakes made by those behind the wheel.
“A lot of it is driver error and judgement, and through our coaching approach with new drivers, we really want to try to give to drivers some good judgement skills so they understand what it takes to make a good decision,” he adds.

He says the curriculum which includes in-class, online, and on road training is open to anyone and costs about $1,200. Another bonus, drivers will learn hands on in either a Mercedes-Benz B Class Tourer or a C Class Sedan.
