Kash Heed calls for two BC Cabinet ministers to step down

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – More fuel is being poured on a pre-election controversy that has dogged the BC Liberals.

There’s a call from within the party for two Cabinet Ministers to step down.

BC Liberal MLA Kash Heed knows all about resigning, having done so three years ago when he was Solicitor General, over a controversy related to election campaign materials. Now he’s calling on Cabinet Ministers Shirley Bond and Pat Bell to do the same over a Prince George project that has led to questions about the extent of their involvement.

Heed argues Bond and Bell should “do the right thing” in the name of public trust, until the matter surrounding the Prince George Wood Innovation and Design Centre is investigated. His advice comes in a article published online in the Huffington Post.

“This is not about politics. This is about ensuring the integrity and the public trust us as elected officials must maintain,” he says.

He adds that he’s not worried about upsetting people with his remarks. “I’m certainly aware that people may get a few ruffled feathers because of this, but I’ve spoken out on matters that are near and dear to my heart, so I’m willing to take the consequences that might occur as a result of my opinion,” he tells us.

Heed tells News1130 he has not been in contact with anyone from any other political party.

However Premier Christy Clark is distancing herself from Heed, who is not seeking re-election. “I inherited a caucus from my predecessor and lots of those people aren’t running again.”

Bell is also not seeking re-election, but Bond is, and the premier says Bond is doing a great job. “She has been an exceptional minister of justice.”

Clark was in Surrey today to help Peter Fassbender open his campaign office, in an event that showcased the BC Liberal candidates in that city.
