KidSafe program marks 20 years of helping vulnerable kids

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A program helping inner city kids in Vancouver is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary.

Gerhard Maynard with KidSafe tells us the organization keeps children out of trouble when school’s out, like during spring break.

“There’s a lot of evidence to say that kids get recruited into gangs; there’s a lot of dangerous activity that goes on for kids. It’s a really, really vulnerable time,” he explains.

“We’re probably one of the only organizations that hopes that we don’t see another 20 years. Ideally, those kinds of conditions wouldn’t exist for kids. But as long as they do, we’re going to be here to provide out-of-school care.”

About 450 kids in need enjoyed a pancake breakfast at Florence Nightingale Elementary this morning, along with other supporters and donors.
