TOIFA events won’t be held in Surrey

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – It’s official.  No Times of India Film Awards events will happen in Surrey when the show comes to Vancouver April 4th to 6th.

Anita Huberman with the Surrey Board of Trade had been lobbying to be a part of TOIFA for some time and says this is a lost opportunity for fans and for the local economy.

“We were one of the original advocates for a Bollywood awards event to take place and so we are extremely disappointed that there is no Times of India Film Awards event in Surrey.”

She says Surrey has the highest South Asian population in the region and many business owners have actually sponsored some of the events.

“This is where the fans are and we’re just so disappointed, not only for the fans but it’s a missed economic opportunity.”

Some of the biggest names in Bollywood will be here for the show including Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan.  It will be hosted by actors Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.

The province is spending $11 million on TOIFA.
