Concerns over eviction notices at Surrey complex

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Controversy is brewing at another property owned by a notorious Metro Vancouver landlord.
A low-income advocacy group is calling for more protection of tenants, in light of what’s happening at a Surrey complex.
ACORN Canada is objecting to eviction notices the group says have been served to everyone at Kwantlen Park Manor, a 31-unit apartment at 106th Avenue near 130th Street in North Surrey. It’s a building linked to the Sahota family, which is behind a number of other buildings that have had problems.
Tenants at Kwantlen Park Manor have been complaining about mould. Former building manager Sue Collard says the work should have been done years ago.
“This is a process that’s been ongoing for three years. I have been disputing for more than three years,” says former building manager Sue Collard.
She’s frustrated with how long this has been going on.
“If in three years, there are no consequences and no effective repairs, then where does that leave tenants? I’ll tell you where it leaves tenants; it leaves them out on the street, because everybody is getting evicted.”
Collard wants to see better protection for tenants in buildings in need of repairs.
