Film awards could stir up trade between Canada and India

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The province believes the Bollywood extravaganza, the Times of India Film Awards, held in Vancouver yesterday will strengthen trade ties with India.

A local film expert says you might see more than just better economic relations  —  but also Bollywood movies setting up shop in BC.

SFU Film Professor Patricia Gruber says a lot of folks in the industry are now more motivated than ever to bring their lights, camera and action to Vancouver.

She has been behind the scenes this past week working with Indian movie makers on new partnerships.

“Get them to come with their big budget films sand spend their money and shoot here and hire our crews,” she says.

Not only will it be good for BC’s struggling film industry, she says there’s a lot of interest on both continents in telling stories about the growing Indo-Canadian community in the Lower Mainland.
