More security expected at the border after Boston bombing

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We still don’t know who is behind the terror bombing at the Boston Marathon, but you can probably expect increased surveillance at our border crossings.

“Whenever the US is under attack, the typical US response [is to] increase surveillance both within… the homeland but also at points of entry, including, but not limited to, the border,” says SFU PhD candidate Joshua Labove, noting that includes YVR.

“[Expect] increased secondary inspections, increased questioning,” advises Labov. “Mostly, I think what we should just expect is see increased visibility of law enforcement and security.”

He says it will be an “all-hands-on-deck” situation at points of entry.

Three people were killed yesterday when a pair of bombs went off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. An eight-year-old boy is among the dead.

More than 175 people were hurt in the attack.
