Abby cop suspended for unnecessary use of force

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner has suspended an Abbotsford Police officer for 28 days without pay for abuse of authority and deceit.

Constable Adam Page pleaded guilty to assaulting a shoplifter back in 2009 but the public hearing found he lied about the circumstances surrounding the incident in which he shoved a shoplifter so hard  the victim’s head dented the wall.

Deputy Police Complaint Commissioner Rollie Woods says Page has taken responsibility for the incident and has been enrolled in anger management counselling.

“He should continue to take part in that anger management counselling but I think that all of the issues were well canvassed and it’s a pretty well considered decision.”

Abbotsford Police Cst. Ian MacDonald says they will be reviewing whether Page can return to active duty but are confident in the decision handed down.

“We’re still reviewing the decision but we trust in the OPCC and the fact that they are set up for that impartial civilian oversight.”

Page has been with the Abbotsford Police Department for eight years.
