FBI releases photos of two suspects in Boston Marathon bombing

The FBI has released photos and video of two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing, who they say appear to have been working in tandem.

They have only been identified as Suspect 1 and Suspect 2, and the FBI says they were identified after careful review of video footage.

“Our collective law-enforcement team has pursued thousands of leads and tips,” said Richard DeLaurier with the Boston FBI. “(We) have been working around the clock and are fully committed to investigating this matter.”

The first suspect was identified over the past few days, and the FBI was soon after able to determine a second individual of interest.

“Suspect 1 is wearing a dark hat, Suspect 2 is wearing a white hat. Suspect 2 set down a backpack at the site of the second explosion, just in front of the Forum Restaurant,” DeLaurier said.

No bit of information is too small for the FBI to see, according to DeLaurier, who stressed that the FBI is relying on the public to be their eyes and ears.

“Somebody out there knows these individuals as friends, neighbours, co-workers or family members,” DeLaurier said. “Though it may be difficult, the nation is counting on those with information to come forward and provide it to us.”

The FBI warned that the two men are considered armed and dangerous, and that they should not be approached at any time. Instead, anyone who knows or happens to see them should immediately contact law enforcement.

“The victims and the survivors deserve nothing less,” DeLaurier said. “Treating victims with respect and assistance will better our cases.”

Before releasing the images authorities said they had to be sure the men in the images are relevant to the case and not just bystanders.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said it’s still unclear whether the bombs were the work of foreign or domestic terrorists.

The bombings killed three people and injured more than 170.

A video of the suspects has also been released, which can be seen below.
