BC Liberals gaining ground

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The latest poll on the election race is looking better for the BC Liberals, even though the NDP is still far in the lead.

Is it too late for the BC Liberals to gain more of a competitive advantage?

Mario Canseco with Angus Reid says undecided voters have been window shopping, and the Liberals are picking up support where the Greens and Conservatives are losing it.

The NDP still holds steady at 45 per cent support, though. Canseco adds if the Liberals at 31 per cent want to close the gap, they have to outperform at Monday night’s leaders debate.

“This is the last opportunity for the Liberals to reconnect with their base,” Canseco says. “Try to get those 15 per cent of Gordon Campbell Liberals who are now Adrian Dix New Democrats to come back.”

“I think it’s ultimately about having more discussions about policy and specific things you can do and actually using that 90 minutes to appeal to the BC population and say, ‘you should stick with us,'” he adds.

Canseco says the strategy of attacking the NDP isn’t working given the party’s stable support.

You can hear the debate live and uninterrupted Monday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on News1130. You can also watch it on City.
