Enviro groups say NDP platform has more hits than misses

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It has more hits than misses.

That’s what some environmental groups are saying as they mull over the NDP’s environmental platform.

Gwen Barlee with the Wilderness Committee is pleased with most of the plan, namely opposition to oil pipelines, despite some accusing the party of flip flopping.

“Also pledged by the NDP to strengthen BC’s environmental assessment process, it’s a very weak process right now. Also work with the federal government to implement Cohen’s recommendations to protect wild salmon.”

But she says there are things lacking.

The group wants a ban on Grizzly Bear Hunting, a ban on open net cage salmon farms after the Cohen report, and it’s worried about the impact of LNG and coal development, especially when it comes to fracking.
