NDP challenged about the oil and gas sector and fracking

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – More questions for the leader of the BC ND about his position on the oil and gas sector.

Adrian Dix has had to clarify his party’s stance on fracking, following comments from one of his candidates.

The BC Liberals are drawing attention the words of Charlie Wyse, who’s quoted as telling an all-candidates meeting his party would introduce a two-year moratorium on fracking.

But Adrian Dix says Wyse misspoke.

“I find it astonishing that you would express surprise that occasionally people make mistakes in debates. I mean, really. This is something we’ve been clear on for a long time.”

Dix says his party’s position is well-known: if elected, the ND would launch a review of fracking.

“There’s some real concerns in the region about the way water is used, and so we have to assess it. So we’re going to conduct a scientific review and in the meantime there won’t be any moratorium.”

Dix has also recently faced questions about his sudden opposition to the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion, after earlier maintaining he would wait until a formal application is made before passing judgment.
