Polls showing Liberals inching closer to the NDP

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – As the political parties head into the election homestretch following the leader’s debate, one analyst is sensing volatility in the polls.

The NDP is still heavily favoured to win, but the Liberals are showing signs of modest gains.

Eric Grenier of ThreeHundredEight.com gives the Liberals a less than five percent chance of winning the popular vote on May 14th.

But he says the polls, after months of consistency, are beginning to vary when it comes to Christy Clark’s team.

“It does make a difference between the Liberals being decimated and still having a relatively robust opposition.”

Grenier wonders whether it’s a sign the Liberals are starting to gain ground, but says it’s still unclear if Monday’s debate has changed anything.

He says Liberals appear stronger in some parts of the province.

“They are a lot more competitive in the Interior, in the north. That’s where a lot of the seats seem to be moving over to the Liberals, just in terms of the regional numbers and what that would translate into.”

Grenier also says the race in Vancouver appears to be close, while on Vancouver Island, it’s more the NDP versus the Greens.

As of last week, Grenier gives the NDP 56 seats to the Liberals’ 28.
