Some local Target stores opening Tuesday

COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – It’s good news for all of you who tend to go south of the line to do a little shopping. Some of the local Target locations are opening tomorrow.

Nine stores in BC will open their doors on Tuesday morning. The Lower Mainland locations are in Coquitlam, Delta and Langley.

Stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Many locations will also feature a Starbucks, as well as a pharmacy.

The retailer is opening 22 stores in Western Canada this week and two more on May 14th, as it rolls toward its goal of 124 locations in Canada before the end of the year.

“We think we may have has many as 10 additional stores next year, and then within 10 years we think we could have 200 stores across this country,” says Target Canada President Tony Fisher, speaking at a Vancouver Board of Trade luncheon today.

He says Canada was the obvious choice for Target’s first international expansion.

“We had three million cross-border shoppers before we opened up a store here,” he explains.

“We started with 70 per cent brand recognition within our core demographic, middle and upper middle-class households, and that figure has increased to more than 90 per cent over the last two years.”

Target launched its first stores in Canada in Ontario earlier this year. The company operates almost 1,800 stores in the United States in addition to its new Canadian locations.
