BC’s jobless rate drops slightly

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC added full-time jobs in April after a big drop in March.

Statistics Canada says this province gained 16,500 full-time jobs last month on a seasonally-adjusted basis, after losing 22,400 in March. Part-time employment dropped by 7,000 for a net increase of 9,500.

The gain, plus a slight drop in the number of people looking for work, pushed BC’s unemployment rate six tenths of a per cent lower to 6.4 per cent.

Nationwide, manufacturers added the most jobs in 11 months. Employment rose by 12,500 versus a median estimate of 15,000. The jobless rate was unchanged at 7.2 per cent.
