NDP leading the Liberals days before election: poll

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Another day, another poll.

More than half of people surveyed in an online Angus Reid poll want a new party to form government.

Mario Canseco with Angus Reid says the BC NDP still has the upper hand.

Forty five per cent of decided voters would cast a ballot for the New Democrat candidate in their riding.

Only three-in-ten people would re-elect the BC Liberals.

The Liberals have made some gains but is that enough?

“They are at the highest level that they’ve had in more than a year but they’re still nine points behind the NDP, so it’s going to  be difficult for them to turn this tide in the next three days,” explains Canseco.

When it comes to approval rating, people seem to have the most positive view of NDP leader Adrian Dix and Green Party leader Jane Sterk is in second place.

“He’s had over 40 per cent and has been consistently over 40 per cent for this campaign.  The one thing that has really been interesting to watch, Jane Sterk has been doing a lot better, close to 40 per cent, even better than Christy Clark when it comes to these numbers,” says Canseco.

Compare this to Friday’s Ipsos Reid poll which puts Liberal leader Christy Clark ahead of Dix in popularity as the best premier.

Canseco says this poll can bee seen as more accurate than previous ones.

“The other thing that is interesting is, we’ve moved into a system where those that take the survey can only answer if there’s a candidate in their riding that they can support.  So what we’re trying to do is minimize the amount of respondents who may be thinking about the Conservatives and for the Greens and cannot find a candidate in their riding…because they’re [Greens and Conservatives] not running full slates, we may have had a situation where people want to vote for them but they can’t do it because they don’t have anybody running in their riding.”

On the topic of issues that matter, folks say the economy remains the most important.
