Father and daughter found dead on Blackcomb

WHISTLER (NEWS1130) – A tragic weekend on Blackcomb Mountain.

A 10-year-old girl and her 49-year-old father, both from North Vancouver, have been found dead.

RCMP say they were camping and a search was launched yesterday after the pair didn’t return as planned.

Whistler RCMP Sgt. Rob Knapton says the pair was found dead in their tent after a boulder fell on top of it. “At about 11:30 this morning, unfortunately we located the tent that they were camping in. We discovered both people deceased inside the tent in an area known as the ‘Windlip’ here on Blackcomb Mountain. It appears that at some point in time a rock had fallen on top of the tent. It’s a tragic accident is really what it is.”

“This is an area that is within the normal ski area. It is late in the season though, it’s May right now so a lot of the areas that are normally in the ski area are not open to the general public. It’s not that people can’t go into them but they’re just not routinely patrolled,” says Knapton.

Mounties aren’t identifying the pair but say the mother has been notified.
