Candidates wait patiently with campaigning now off-limits

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s down to the final few hours before the polls close in the provincial election.

So with campaigning off-limits, how do the candidates spend their time?

Alyson Jones, a clinical counsellor says playing the waiting game involves patience.

“Rather than stay in a state of anxiety, I think it is that sense of just a big breath and allowing now the process to take its next step. You’ve done your best, hand it over to the people,” says Jones.

She says a lot of the candidates are Type A personalities who are no stranger to these type of challenges and who will likely surround themselves with a supportive crowd of believers. “They like to get things done and they’re action-oriented. So to sort of suspend the action now can go against their type.”

Occupying themselves with a favourite activity or book is one way to get through the final hours and take their minds off the inevitable news, good or bad.

Jones says the biggest coping mechanism is remaining positive no matter what.
