VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The chairman of one of this province’s best-known polling companies says the industry is facing a daunting problem.
Angus Reid of Angus Reid Public Opinion says he knows what needs to be done to ensure electoral predictions are more accurate in the future, but he’s unsure if the associated costs are justifiable because the media only pays a pittance for the work.
Reid says pollsters must invest in multi-lingual polling, connect with younger voters, and get a better handle on NDP voters who sometimes say and do different things.
Insights West and Ipsos Reid have confirmed that they have felt a backlash from the community and media after the industry predicted a win by the NDP in Tuesday night’s election.
