COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – Three hikers who got lost above Buntzen Lake in Coquitlam have been helicoptered to safety after spending the night on Eagle Ridge.
Rescuers says it looks like the men got lost, pure and simple.
Mike Coyel with Coquitlam Search and Rescue says it’s still pretty snowy up there and the men — all in their 20s — likely lost their way because the snow covered up the trails.
“Certainly the snow is melting and freezing with daytime high temperatures and so our guys had to use crampons and ice axes and rope rescue techniques to get down to them.
Coyel says the hikers appear to have done everything right, including calling in crews when they realized they were lost and staring down the face of some cliffs.
