Comeback on hold for Vancouver’s Vasek Pospisil

PARIS, FR (NEWS1130) –  Vancouver’s Vasek Pospisil had his French Open first round match against Horatio Zeballos of Argentina rained out today in Paris.

Pospisil dropped the opening two sets of his match against the left hander, but won the third and was up 4-1 in the fourth set when the rains halted play. They’ll try again tomorrow.

Originally from Vernon, Pospisil continues to train in Vancouver. Pospisil has a number 85 ATP career ranking high in singles and  115 in doubles. Zeballos was the  2009 ATP Newcomer of the Year award winner back in 2010.

It’s been an eventful season for Pospisil who had to skip all tournaments earlier this year including the Australian Open due to mononucleosis. He did rebound in Canada’s Davis Cup  victory over Italy, by teaming with Daniel Nestor to win a doubles match. Earlier this month, he won his third ATP Challenger singles title in Johannesburg.

Canada’s other hopes in singles at Roland Garros lie with Thornhill, Ontario’s Milos Raonic, who beat Belgium’s Xavier Malisse in his opening match on Sunday, and Westmount, Quebec’s Eugenie Bouchard who faces defending womens champion Maria Sharapova in the second round.
