Flu season on the way out, but many still have the sniffles

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The cold and flu season has started to peter-out around the province, but people are still popping up with sniffles, just in time for summer!

While Provincial Medical Health Officer Dr. Perry Kendall says it is not too late to get a flu shot, he doesn’t think it would very effective for you to get one this time of year.

So what germs are flying around right now?

“The same on-going mixture of non-Influenza viruses,” says Kendall. “As we move into the next flu season, starting in October or November, that would be the time to get your flu shot.”

However, if you plan to do any travelling, Kendall is reminding you the flu season is in full swing in the Southern Hemisphere.

“So, if you haven’t had a flu shot, but you are travelling, say, to Venzuela, for example, that might be something you would think about getting,” he advises.

Kendall is also reminding us that frequent hand-washing is the best way to stay healthy.
