PM to make first appearance in House since Senate scandal

OTTAWA (NEWS1130) – Prime Minister Stephen Harper will be walking into a hornet’s nest today.

It’s his first appearance in the House of Commons for Question Period since the Senate spending scandal saw the resignation of Harper’s Chief of Staff, Nigel Wright.

The PM’s seat has been empty through the scandal, leaving his cabinet ministers to pinch hit during a barrage of questions from the opposition. Harper was out of the country last week on a South American trade mission.

Liberal MP Scott Andrews has attempted to drag Harper into the house to answer questions from the House of Commons Ethics Committee about his knowledge of the spending controversy.

“These are Conservatives that came into government on the high horse of accountability,” said Andrews. “They are the ones that talked about it for years, so it’s time to walk the walk.”

However, Andrew’s motion was defeated.

Meantime, Senator Mike Duffy has been invited to speak to the Executive of the Senate’s Board of Internal Economy, but whether he will speak is still unknown.
