Twins can’t touch Mariners pitcher Iwakuma

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (NEWS1130) – Hisashi Iwakuma struck out five and improved his record to 6-1 as Seattle blanked the Twins 3-0. Kendrys Morales had a two-run home run to pace the Mariners offensively.

The Japanese right-hander has not allowed an earned run in 20 2/3 straight innings by Minnesota in three starts going back to last season. The 31-year-old Iwakuma went 7 2/3 innings and lowered his ERA to 2.13 on the season.

The loss ended a four-game winning streak by the Twins.

Minnesota almost took the lead in the bottom of the third, but M’s shortstop Brendan Ryan threw out Chris Parmelee at home on the fielders choice.

Morales launched his two-run dinger over the centre field wall off of Twins starter Mike Pelfrey.

Catcher Jesus Sucre added an RBI single as well in the sixth for Seattle to round out the scoring.

Tom Wilhelmsen picked up his twelfth save on the year for Seattle.

Trail’s Jason Bay of the Mariners and New Westminster’s Justin Morneau of the Twins were each 0-for-4 at the plate.
