Building permits on the rise

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Building permits unexpectedly rose in April, led by multiple-unit housing in Vancouver despite months of sharply lower sales.

Municipalities in the Vancouver area issued permits for construction valued at $645 million, according to Statistics Canada. That’s 14.2 per cent higher than a year earlier and 50.2 per cent more than the previous month.

The Fraser Valley and Victoria also had surges in building permits.

Nationwide, building permits rose 5.4 per cent year-over-year to $6.96 billion, entirely due to condo and apartment projects.
